Speaker: Brandi Burns, Director of Education and Engagement at the Utah Historical Society
Description: This presentation discusses the current gender gap on Wikipedia, summarizes Wikipedia’s mission and how Wikipedia editors build a consensus-based system. Brandi concluded her presentation with a demonstration of how Wikipedia edits are made and then address audience questions.
Brandi had the opportunity to learn how to edit Wikipedia through a collaboration of the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) and Wiki Education. Through a free, eight-week training course, Wiki Education’s experts provided guidance and mentorship to bring more history doers into this important mission. Registrants worked alongside fellow practitioners to develop crucial skills in Wikipedia editing and research dissemination.
