Women’s History Illuminated tells women’s histories through the stories of National Historic Landmarks , the U.S.’ most significant historic places.
The project was created in 2025 by contributor Dr. Sarah Pawlicki with Project Partners Freedom House Productions, Hard History Project, Makematic, National Historic Landmarks Program, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The project is highlighted on the new Mellon website Now & Here, where humanities projects funded by Mellon are highlighted.
The full project is hosted in ArcGIS and includes three different ways to explore women’s histories: Junior Preservationist, Junior Historian, and Junior Historiographer. The journeys are broken down my learning levels so learners of different grade levels can get involved with history!
