GUEST SPEAKER
Heather Huyck
Unexpected: Discovering Histories of American Women
“Unexpected: Discovering Histories of American Women” considers the many ways we can find, research, and share the many histories of American women. We can tell our story with sources and resources sometimes obvious but often in unexpected places from attics, military encampments, and mines to wilderness canoes, bicycles, the Capitol steps and high altitude homesteads. Heather Huyck will expand on her recent book Doing Women’s History in Public and discuss recent triumphs and potential tragedies in doing women’s histories in public.
Heather Huyck is a past President and charter member of NCWHS who first studied women’s history decades ago. She has visited literally hundreds of historic sites, and worked for the National Park Service, US House of Representatives, and College of William & Mary. She published Doing Women’s History in Public just as the pandemic began. With a PhD in American History and a MA in Cultural Anthropology, she seeks to tell the whole story.
She has arranged with the publisher Rowman & Littlefield to forgo any royalties to give participants a 30% discount on her book when using code RLFANDF30.
We will open the meeting with an overview looking at an eventful year for the Collaborative. Please share this email with anyone you think would be interested in attending. Zoom link to be shared closer to date. We hope to see you there!
